Fasting – the Blessed Opportunity to Gain Allah’s Mercy

“O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may become God-Fearing” (Holy Quran 2:183)

Glad tidings to all the Muslims across the globe for we are about to welcome another Blessed Ramadan after a few days. Yes! Indeed it’s very exciting and I know that just like me, you all are also anxiously waiting for the blessed moments to come in your life when the reward of every good deed will increase manifolds, when we will have the closest connectivity with Allah Almighty while making dues at the time of Iftar, when there will be no fight or quarrel between any of us, when there will prevail serenity within ourselves and the surroundings and when at the end of 30 days fasting, the reward will unwrap with golden joyful moments of Eid ul Fitr.

Muslims have remained an important part of the American history since pre-Columbus times. The past experiences of Muslims in America date back to 18th Century. Later on, many other Muslims migrated from the Ottoman Empire and South Africa and assimilated into the American society. Almost fifteen to twenty percent of the African slaves were Muslims. The major increase came in the 2oth century because of immigration, conversion and increasing birth rate and according to estimate; there were more than 115,000 Muslims in America by 2009.

The lives of women before Islam were like animals. In Arabic region the power was in men’s hand and they treated them as they wanted. No one can question to a man if he killed his mother, wife or daughter. They sailed them like things in to open market, no one there, who gave respect them or considered them as human being. ARAB killed their girls when they are born for nothing and few of them felt happy as they became rich after selling that girl. Islam gives high status to women and the same man not only ready for protecting his wife, sister, mother and daughter also sacrificing for women. Islam has set the boundaries and tells the limits of relations for both men and women.
